"Known for her work in intricate wire wrapping and coiling, Jodi Bombardier takes a slightly different approach in this collection of 20-25 projects. Prompted in part by the ironwork so prevalent in her native Tucson, Jodi offers her interpretation of filigree-delicate work traditionally made by soldering threads of gold or silver. Jodi fashions her signature heavy gauge wire frames in sinuous shapes, cold-joining them with fine wire to form open, lacy patterns. From Intro: Filigree jewelry is made up of fine wires shaped into intricate patterns in open soldered designs or soldered to a metal base. Typically gold or silver wire is used. In Artisan Filigree, we are not using hot connections but rather only cold connections by using heavier gauge wire for the shapes which are then coiled or woven together with finer gauge wire and some shapes are connected with jump rings Jodi focuses on technique, particularly how to create shaped wire frames consistently and precisely. Concentrating on the correct ways to use tools and hold wire, she shows how proper body mechanics can create perfect-looking designs. She discusses the nuts and bolts of filigree design: how to create airy pieces that are still strong and stable enough to withstand daily wear. Projects follow, showing an increasing technicality of assembly, and integrating a greater number of wire pieces as she moves the reader along. Yet while intent on sharpening skills, she also gives inspiration its due. In addition to providing project instructions, Jodi demonstrates how the same scrolled design can be manipulated, joined, or rearranged to offer endless variations with a basic element, offering design possibilities hampered only by the imagination."-- Provided by publisher
