Lisa St Aubin de Terán wurde am 2. Oktober 1953 in London geboren. Sie ist die Tochter einer Engländerin und eines Guyaners und begann bereits mit 12 Jahren zu schreiben. Nach ihrer Heirat mit dem Venezolaner Jaime Terán lebte sie in den venezolanischen Anden, wo sie sieben Jahre lang eine Hazienda führte. Nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Europa veröffentlichte sie 1982 ihren ersten Roman, gefolgt von The Slow Train to Milan.
