Painter of large Pop-ish abstractions, German artist Jochen Stenschke (born 1959) bombards his canvas with colorful organic forms afloat in pictorial space. Linking diverse artistic traditions ranging from Islamic ornamentalism to European abstraction, Stenschke recruits their motifs for his energetic imagery.
Jochen Stenschke Livres

Jochen Stenschke understands painting and drawing as having multi-layered, situational potential, whose gestures investigate the continuity and discontinuity of time and space. Jochen Stenschke calls his blue paint and ink drawings of the space of the former synagogue in Oerlinghausen: "Synagogue - BLUE Vessel". Photographs from the postwar period showing the remains of the original wall decorations in the Old Synagogue were one source of inspiration. The development of this temporary drawing of the space - with detailed and general views - is presented in this publication by Kunstverein Oerlinghausen.
