Held at TBA21 – Augarten, the show was a vibrant demonstration of ancestral futures, a term that unpacks potentials for creating a future that is also deeply rooted in cultures of tradition. Through multiple exchanges between members of thirty-two Huni Kuin communities in Brazil, this publication brings together threads from anthropology, art, and science that are interwoven, like the movement of a serpent, with essay contributions, oral histories, drawings, and traditional song. A selection of artworks by international artists dealing with the food theme and all its implications. This volume accompanies the international traveling exhibition FOOD, that focuses on the preservation of Earth and food choices, as well as the effects of climate change, the poisoning of agricultural products, the food distribution gap, famine, and other related concerns.

Der brasilianische Künstler Ernesto Neto präsentiert hier ein organisches Gesamtkonzept. Der Titel „From Sebastian to Olivia“ verdeutlicht das Thema einer verdichteten Raumwelt: Ausgehend von der Erfahrung, dass zwei Menschen einen Raum miteinander teilen und durch nichts anderes als dessen Architektur voneinander getrennt sind und sich so weder begegnen noch miteinander kommunizieren können, schuf Neto diese komplexe Installation in der Galerie Max Hetzler. Strukturell illustriert sie Isolation und Einsamkeit der männlichen wie der weiblichen Sphäre, indiziert jedoch gleichzeitig die Möglichkeit eines Kontaktes. „Ich bin Skulptur und denke als Skulptur“, sagt Neto und beschreibt damit seine Auffassung, dass auch Skulptur ein lebender Organismus ist, der jegliche Grenzen überschreitet. Diese Verwischung der Grenzen zeigt der Künstler neben diffusen Licht- und Duftkomponenten, mit vier begehbaren Treppen, einem Aussichtsplateau, einer Schaukel, Hockern, Sitzobjekten und Skulpturen, sowie vier Gewürzzeichnungen und einer farbigen Wandskulptur. In der als organische Membranwelt gestalteten Ausstellungshalle verbinden sie die verschiedenen Raum- und Sinnebenen.
