Vorliegendes Buch beschreibt die erste Reise von Robert Hermann Schomburgk (1804-1865) nach Britisch-Guayana, die von der Londoner Geographischen Gesellschaft finanziert wurde und 1834 begann. Sie führte Schomburgk in die Stromgebiete des Amazonas und Orinoko, wo er die von Alexander von Humboldt begonnenen Forschungen abschloss.
