Edited by MAK Wien, MGLC Ljubljana, and UPM Prag, with a foreword by Helena Koenigsmarková, Nevenka Šivavec, and Christoph Thun-Hohenstein, this publication aims to introduce the multifaceted genre of artists' books to a wider audience. The project, Artists’ Books on Tour: Artist Competition and Mobile Museum, was initiated to explore the diverse aesthetic expressions of artists’ books. In a Europe-wide competition, artists were invited to engage with the theme of artists’ books and their various forms. This catalogue showcases the five awarded projects alongside 45 additional selected works, highlighting the innovative approaches and creativity within this genre. The initiative reflects a collaborative effort to promote understanding and appreciation of artists' books as a significant form of contemporary art. The exhibition took place from October 12, 2011, to January 22, 2012, at the MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art in Vienna.
