Sheila Hicks. Thread Trees River

En savoir plus sur le livre

The textiles and installations of the American artist Sheila Hicks (*1934) evade traditional concepts of textile art. Hicks expands the languages of sculpture, painting, and the environment by creating new forms and dimensions. Inspired by the ideas of the Wiener Werkstätte and the Bauhaus, she dissolves the boundaries of medium and material and employs historical techniques of knotting and weaving as contemporary instruments to initiate intercultural dialogue and to create an awareness of the small deviants in grid pattern that make life interesting. With the publication Thread Trees River, the artist sketches the interplay of nature, textiles, architecture, and space through works from the entire spectrum of her art. A spectacular book object designed to perfection!00Exhibition: MAK - Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna, Austria (10.12.2020 - 18.04.2021).
