This study examines the ways in which the great international organizations of the Western world - the UN, CSCE, NATO, the EC and WEU - should be seeking to work in co-operation to stem the flood of turmoil that characterizes the post-Cold-War world, and may even threaten the very existence of the present security community. In a series of chapters, the contributors each represent a view from the standpoint of a different organization, consider how a new and well-orchestrated structure, based upon the great organizations, might be devised in order to recreate stability. Every facet of the problem is addressed from the philosophical analysis of the means of sustaining peace through international co-operation to the cold hard realities of funding such an organization and its widely diverse operations.
