En savoir plus sur le livre

Much of Minnesota's boreal forest is within the Superior and the adjoining Chippewa National Forests. Boreal simply means north. The boreal forest, or taiga, is the world's largest biome, encircling the northern hemisphere just below the tundra biome - where trees do not grow, and is one of three main forest biomes in the world. (The other tow are the temperate forest and the the tropical rainforest.) A biome is an area with distinctive plants, animals and climate, and a dominant feature of the boreal forest is its long, cold winter. A group of Minnesota botanical artists applied their skills and knowledge to create a visual archival record of Minnesota's threatened boreal forest. This collection is important because the ecology of the boreal forest is undergoing slow and silent but significant change due to disturbances caused by fire, invasive insects and stressful climate conditions. -- Back cover
