PRINCE (Projects in Controlled Environments), a structured method for effective project management, was introduced as the standard for all government information system projects in 1989. Prince2 was launched in 1996 to provide project management guidance for all types of projects, and it has become a de facto standard used extensively by the UK government as well as widely recognised throughout the private sector both in the UK and internationally.
