This revision guide prepares candidates for the different assessment areas of the English Language and Literature course. It summarises and explains these assessment elements, and reviews the analytical skills needed.To be fully prepared for the exams and other assessments, candidates need to understand the ideas the course is based on, so every section of this book includes relevant discussion of these ideas, explaining how they relate to the different assessment areas.Unlike the revision guide for a content based subject, this guide does not revise texts candidates may have studied - that would be impossible, because the range from which a school selects its texts is so great that no two will select the same ones. This guide, therefore, focuses on the skills required and the understanding of the ways language conveys meaning, rather than on revisiting individual texts. It deals with the written tasks and oral assessments as well as the two examination papers, since these are all part of the formal assessment - its purpose is to prepare candidates for the entirety of the assessment and not just for the written exams.
