This book introduces and develops what is meant by taking 'a systems approach' to environmental decision making. The book focuses on the first two stages of the environmental decision-making framework, which are to explore or re-explore the situation and to formulate problems, opportunities and systems of interest. It demonstrates the application of many techniques and encourages readers to develop understanding and skills in systems thinking, modelling and evaluating. It goes on to consider the nature and role of environmental legislation and schemes in decision making.
