creating emotive utopias through photography

Paramètres

En savoir plus sur le livre

Black Masculinities delves into the diverse representations of Black masculinities through contemporary photography, showcasing the work of 22 Black or People of Color (BPoC) artists globally. The book challenges the stereotypical portrayal of Black identity and masculinity, often linked to aggression and hypersexuality, rooted in a history of slavery and oppression. It visually deconstructs these common representations in visual culture with carefully curated images and contextual text. Serving as an introductory platform for BPoC photographers, the book highlights their underrepresented contributions to the art world. Featured photographers include Kemka Ajoku, Kwaku Alston, Namafu Amutse, and many others, whose works are brought to the forefront. The book aims to make visible the rich diversity of Black masculinities for a broader audience. Joshua Amissah, a Swiss designer and curator with a background in fine arts and photography, plays a key role in this project, having previously co-curated photoSCHWEIZ and led the Black Art Matters exhibition. He currently resides and works between Berlin and Zurich.
