‘Singapore in Bloom’ is a photographic collection of local flowers found all around Singapore, filled with beautiful and stunning close up images matched with floral poems. This work was created shortly after the worst period of Covid-19 pandemic and serves as a reminder that even during the darkest hours there is beauty surrounding us. The compilation with its 63 close-up photographs by Frans Wee and 61 poems from well-known poets spans over 128 pages. Every page of ‘Singapore in Bloom’ is meant to stimulate the senses of the reader with its stunning images as well as thought-provoking poems. The author and photographer found inspiration for this work not only in the beauty encountered in the countless green enclaves in Singapore, but in the late former Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew’s vision of turning Singapore into a Garden City – and a beautiful garden it has become! ‘Singapore in Bloom’ commemorates this achievement, appreciates its ongoing efforts and lets the reader participate in its beauty from the comfort of the couch.
