The focus of this work is on four key themes: the evolving Earth's crust, the changing Baltic Sea, climate change, and Planet Earth as the third stone from the Sun. This approach provides a comprehensive review of essential earth science topics relevant to Scandinavia and the Baltic, while also situating these issues in a global context. The discussion culminates in the application of space-born technologies to enhance our understanding of these themes and to position Earth alongside its neighboring planets and their satellites. The first theme explores the structure, origin, and evolution of the Earth’s crust, particularly the ore deposits in Fennoscandia, plate-tectonic drift, and postglacial isostatic rebound. The second theme addresses changes in the Baltic Sea's ice season, deep basin dynamics, the sea's biology, and carbon dioxide balance. The third theme examines the origin and evolution of atmospheric oxygen, postglacial climate changes, the impact of aerosols and greenhouse gases, and the interaction between human activities and natural factors affecting current climate change and water resources. The fourth theme presents articles on Earth’s space environment, satellite applications in cartography and geodesy, insights from space probes about Mars and other celestial bodies, and the potential for discovering extraterrestrial life.
