En savoir plus sur le livre
Nguyen Quang Truong and his coauthors have modernized taxonomic concepts and nomenclature, significantly enhancing our understanding of Vietnam's herpetofauna through numerous new species discoveries. The exploration of this region's reptiles and amphibians began with the foundational monographic works of French author Rene Bourret (1934-1944) and has since evolved into an intensive research effort over recent decades. This surge in herpetological study has involved both Vietnamese researchers and international teams from Russia, Canada, the US, the UK, and Germany, often collaborating on various projects. The result has been the identification and description of many new species and genera. Kraig Adler from Cornell University has contributed a detailed chapter on this pivotal aspect of Vietnamese herpetology. The extensive acknowledgments highlight the contributions of numerous colleagues worldwide who provided valuable information, comments, and photographs for this comprehensive checklist. This publication exemplifies the high level of international cooperation in documenting Vietnam's rich natural heritage. Additionally, the role of the publisher, 'Chimaira' in Frankfurt am Main, is acknowledged for facilitating the international accessibility of the extensive research findings on Vietnam's herpetofauna.
