This book explores the intriguing world of banknotes and the industry behind their production. While we handle banknotes daily, the processes and individuals involved in their creation remain largely unknown, shrouded in secrecy justified by security concerns. This secrecy is compounded by the complex, politicized nature of the market, involving both central banks and private printers, reminiscent of the armaments industry. In today's internet age, such opacity seems outdated, especially given the significant taxpayer money involved in banknote printing. This work provides a comprehensive examination of the banknote industry, filling a gap left by a previous attempt to unveil its inner workings, which was suppressed shortly after publication. The current book has been meticulously researched over five years across Europe, the USA, and Latin America, relying on personal interviews and confidential materials typically inaccessible to outsiders. Efforts were made to halt this research, and many interviewees insisted on anonymity due to fear of employer reprisals. Consequently, the author has avoided direct quotes and sought to corroborate information through multiple independent sources, ensuring a credible narrative while respecting the confidentiality of those involved.
