En savoir plus sur le livre

Morocco's geological structure and evolution are among the most captivating in the world. Recent decades have significantly enhanced our understanding, thanks to extensive seismic profiles, boreholes, seismological analyses, seismic tomography, and gravimetric/geodetic modeling. This progress has been complemented by a comprehensive National Program of Geological Mapping, which includes modern geochemical analyses and reliable isotopic dating methods. Additionally, numerous academic studies have emerged alongside the growth of Moroccan universities, highlighting the need for a contemporary treatise on Moroccan geology. This new work aims to replace the classical "Eléments de géologie marocaine," first published in 1976 and reprinted multiple times, with over 6000 copies sold and even translated into Japanese for engineers. Coordinated by A. Michard and assisted by O. Saddiqi and A. Chalouan, this treatise was prepared between April 2006 and July 2007 by a diverse group of experts from Morocco, France, and Belgium. The book, titled "Continental Evolution: The Geology of Morocco," focuses on the structure, stratigraphy, and tectonics of the Africa-Atlantic-Mediterranean triple junction. Its editing and production received support from the Geological Society of France, the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines of Morocco, and the International Lithosphere Program.
