The annual international conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA) has become a key scientific event. This volume presents a collection of papers that showcase the latest advancements in data, information and knowledge management, intelligent systems, and their applications. The 18th DEXA conference took place at the University of Regensburg, Germany, from September 3–7, 2007, featuring several collocated conferences and workshops that addressed specialized topics. Six conferences were held alongside DEXA: the Eighth International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK), the Seventh International Conference on Electronic Commerce and Web Technologies (EC-Web), the Fifth International Conference on Electronic Government (EGOV), the 3rd International Conference on Trust, Privacy, and Security in Digital Business (TrustBus), the 3rd International Conference on Industrial Applications of Holonic and Multi-Agent Systems (HoloMAS), and the 1st International Conference on Network-Based Information Systems (NBiS), along with 19 workshops. The conference offers a unique platform for in-depth discussions across a wide range of topics, fostering an environment that encourages networking and collaboration among young scientists, engineers, and esteemed experts in the field of information technologies.
