The study examines the research productivity of Chinese TEFL academics, revealing a low output between 2004 and 2008. It identifies four key influences on productivity: disciplinary factors, research environments, individual traits beneficial for research, and academics' perceptions of research. Utilizing these insights, the research proposes a framework, FECTARP, aimed at enhancing the research capacity of TEFL academics in China. This mixed-method approach combines a survey with qualitative case studies to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by these educators.
